NFL Draft 2022 Grading landing spots for QBs from best Kenny Pickett to worst Matt Corral

The 2022 NFL Draft is in the books, and we Bradley Chubb Jerseys know where the league's best and brightest young quarterbacks have landed.
Nine quarterbacks were selected despite the position being regarded as weaker than usual. Only one went in the first round. Teams gambled on developmental players in the middle rounds.
The nature of this cla s created an interesting dynamic: More quarterbacks than usual landed on playoff-caliber teams.
Still, a handful of pa sers landed with teams searching for a starter. Those are usually solid landing spots as they provide starting opportunities, but they might not be the best for this year's crop.
So, which signal-caller did land in the best situation? The Sporting News grades how each quarterback selected in the 2022 NFL Draft fits with his team.
MORE 2022 NFL DRAFT:||
Kenny Pickett, Steelers
Grade: A+
It's rare that the first quarterback off the board lands in the best spot, but that's the case with Pickett. The Steelers have one of the deepest rosters in the NFL and he will help them fill one of their biggest needs Mark Schlereth Jerseys .
Pittsburgh made the playoffs last season in spite of Ben Roethlisberger's struggles. It should be better in 2022 with better quarterback play, and Pickett should provide that. The presence of Mitchell Trubisky will allow Pittsburgh to not rush Pickett into starting, so the pre sure will be lighter than usual for a first-round pick.
It also helps that Pickett went to Pitt. He isn't going to a new city; he isn't even going to a new stadium or facility, as Pitt and the Steelers share a building. That should allow him to get acclimated with ease.
Malik Willis, Titans
Grade: A
Pickett landed in the best location, but Willis was darn close in second place. He may not have liked falling to the third round, but going to Tenne see should set him up for long-term succe s in the NFL.
Willishas the athletic skills and arm strength of a franchise quarterback, but he isa raw prospect and may need time to develop. He will be granted that time with the Titans, who have Ryan Tannehill under contract for two more seasons.
Tannehill, 33, has had problems against higher-level competition, so the Titans may hope that Willis can eventually replace him. But they won't rush to remove Tannehill if they believe Willis isn't ready. After all, they were the No. 1 seed in the Craig Morton Jerseys AFC last season. They can afford to be patient while still competing for a playoff spot.

Sam Howell, Commanders
Grade: B+
Howell slipped to the fifth round despite being considered a potential second-round prospect. The Commanders should be a good spot for him, though.
Washington traded for Carson Wentz this offseason, but Wentz is now on his third team in three seasons. He's far from a sure thing. Neither is backup Taylor Heinicke, who was the starter for most of the 2021 season.
If Wentz falters and the Commanders abandon hope with him, Howell could quickly climb the depth chart. He has a good arm and great mobility and was one of the favorites to be the No. 1 overall pick before the 2021 college football season began.
Howell is getting the best of both worlds with Washington. He won't be rushed, but the players ahead of him on the depth chart aren't guaranteed starting roles. He can spend some time honing his skills before pushing Wentz and Heinicke for playing time in 2022 or 2023.

Grade: B
Some may Quinn Meinerz Jerseys question why this grade is a B. The Patriots have Mac Jones, so it doesn't seem likely that Zappe will challenge the 2021 first-round pick for playing time.
But Zappe should have a fairly easy path to a long-term backup Albert Okwuegbunam Jerseys role with the team. Brian Hoyer is 36 and hasn't won a start since 2016. New England has shown little interest in making Jarrett Stidham the top backup, and he is entering the final year of his rookie contract.
If all goes well for Zappe, he will quickly overtake Stidham for the third-string spot. From there, he will eventually battle Hoyer for the backup job. He may not claim it in 2022, but he is already on the fast track to securing it in 2023.
The best part about landing in New England for Zappe is that he will have time to adjust to the NFL. He played just one season in the FBS, and it came at Western Kentucky. He's facing a steep learning curve, but he will be under minimal pre sure.
MORE:
Desmond Ridder, Falcons
Grade: C+
On the one hand, Ridder to the Falcons makes a lot of sense. His skill set is similar to that of Marcus Mariota, so Arthur Smith's offense won't have to change much depending on which player earns Denver Broncos Jackets the starting job.
It's also good news for Ridder that he has a clear path to playing time. Mariota is currently favored to start, but he is signed to only a modest two-year contract. If he struggles or if the team fails to win games, Atlanta may turn to Ridder sooner rather than later.
At the same time, the Falcons aren't a very good team. Their offensive line is leaky and their only proven receiving weapon is Kyle Pitts. First-round pick Drake London could change that, but even if he does, it will only improve Atlanta's supporting cast from weak to marginal.
Also, will Ridder be ready to start if the Falcons are forced to call upon him next season? He has a lot of experience as a four-year starter at Cincinnati, but the jump from a Group of 5 conference to the NFL could prove difficult, especially considering that his accuracy needs work.
Atlanta is a mixed bag for Ridder. It's a boom-or-bust situation. If things break wrong, the Falcons may Jacob Bobenmoyer Jerseys look to draft C.J. Stroud or Bryce Young in 2023. That would make Ridder a long-term backup.
(Getty Images) Skylar Thompson, Dolphins
Grade: C
Thompson was a seventh-round pick, so he will just be looking to secure a spot as a third-stringer. He will have a chance to do that in Miami; his current competition is former Cardinals and CFL quarterback Chris Streveler. Both have good mobility, so it should be an interesting battle.
That said, it's highly doubtful that Thompson will be anything more than a third-stringer this year. Miami is trusting Tua Tagovailoa as its starter while veteran Teddy Bridgewater is set to be a highly paid backup ($10 million in 2022). It's hard to view Thompson's future in Miami Denver Broncos T Shirts as anything more than a coin flip.
NFL DRAFT:
Brock Purdy, 49ers
Grade: C-
Purdy was Mr. Irrelevant in the 2022 NFL Draft and is in a similar spot as Thompson. He is probably battling for a third-string job, though his situation is more volatile.
Purdy will start out behind Trey Lance, Jimmy Garoppolo and Nate Sudfeld on the 49ers' depth chart. It's hard to imagine him overtaking any of them, so the 49ers will probably stash him on the practice squad to develop him.
But it remains po sible that San Francisco will trade Garoppolo before the season. If that happens, Purdy would slot in as the No. 3 behind Lance and Sudfeld. But he still won't have a clear-cut path to a backup job in the next few seasons.
Dennis Smith Jerseys Matt Corral, Panthers
Grade: D+
Corral landed in the worst spot among the top five quarterbacks taken in the 2022 draft. The situation in Carolina could prove difficult for him to navigate.
The Panthers' coaching staff is on the hot seat as Matt Rhule has yet to find succe s in his first two NFL seasons. Carolina is desperate to find an answer at quarterback, which actually could prove problematic for Corral.
Corral has an easy path to the starting job; he just has to beat out Sam Darnold and P.J. Walker. But Corral comes from Lane Kiffin's quarterback-friendly offense, which doesn't translate well to the NFL. He may need time to learn the pro game as a result. The Panthers may not be able to afford him that luxury if Darnold and Walker don't improve.
That could lead Corral getting on the field earlier than he is ready, which could hinder his development or worse. It could make the Panthers panic and try to acquire a quarterback, like Baker Mayfield.
MORE:
Chris Oladokun, Steelers
Grade: F
Oladokun has good athletic traits, but it's hard to see him fitting with the Steelers. They drafted Pickett and signed Trubisky and still have Mason Rudolph on the roster. Maybe the Steelers will cut Rudolph or look to trade Trubisky if they are confident in Pickett, but it's more likely that Oladokun will be a fourth-stringer. That means he'll first be fighting for a spot on the practice squad.
